| Greatest Ever has joined forces with the Retired Boxers Foundation (RBF) as its Sole and Official Charity for the World's Greatest Ever Boxer. The RBF will become a presenting partner. As part of the programme, Greatest Ever will run a number of special initiatives with the Foundation as the sole beneficiary. Greatest Ever will work to raise the profile of the RBF and will put in place on-going, global, fund-raising programmes. |
These activities will vary from special events over the 11,12 and 13 December event weekend; to on-going programmes designed to raise funds for the Foundation and its activities. (More detail to be announced via www.greatestever.com).
“This is an important development for our boxing programme,” said Greatest Ever managing director Chris Heverin. “We always work closely with governing bodies and associations in our projects. The Foundation ensures that we will be able to help create a lasting legacy for retired Boxers and a support that matches the mission of Greatest Ever events, to create a positive celebration of the legends and their history and achievements.”
Many of the world’s legendary fighters have already pledged their support for the programme. The legends are using the Greatest Ever programme as an opportunity to help fellow professionals fighters who haven’t been as fortunate in their retirement and who have fought, most times heroically, against
health and poverty issues.
This is a programme that all fighters feel strongly about and is an opportunity to make a real difference for fighters who in many cases given absolutely everything to the sport and its fans. This is an opportunity to give something back in real terms to these fighters at a time when they have needed the support of fight fans more than ever before in their lives.
About the Retired Boxers Foundation
The mission of the Retired Boxers Foundation is to assist retired professional boxers in the transition from their glorious days in the ring to a dignified retirement.
The Foundation was started by Alex ‘The Bronx Bomber’ Ramos in 1998 and incorporated as a non-profit organisation in 2000. It especially looks to help those suffering from alcohol and substance abuse problems, homelessness and the effects of pugilistic dementia (the medical term for being “punch drunk”).
RBF’s goal is to identify and build resources that are available and accessible to retired professional boxers, under five primary areas of service; financial services; rehabilitation services; housing services; Youth Services, and Senior Citizen Services. |
